Project Director

Salt Lake City

The Project Director (PD) is a member of the Infinite Scale leadership team who oversees creative and technical strategy, in collaboration with other leadership team members — Partner-in-Charge and Creative Director, for design solutions that achieve the Client’s overall objectives and goals. This requires high-level Client services and relationship management, with a strong ability in understanding the Client objectives and driving the strategic direction of the project. The responsibilities include being able to anticipate and balance the Clients needs, and lead the team in delivering on them. Project Directors supervise the project management team, to ensure timelines and budgets are proactively maintained, and team communication is consistent and timely. Client satisfaction and project profitability are key metrics for success. 

Project Directors must have strong experiential graphic design skills, with the ability to think in three dimensions and an expertise of substrates, production methods and costs for products/processes utilized in experiential graphic design. Expertise includes strong comprehension of architectural scales, sections, plans and elevations, and must be able to read and interpret architectural documents and shop drawings. 

The PD must be a highly motivated, adaptable and experienced individual in multiple aspects of design and fabrication. The PD must have proven leadership capabilities, the highest ethical standards and the skills to both lead and develop others. The PD must be able to supervise all phases of a large and/or multiple projects from visioning and creative strategy, through implementation and closeout by leading a project management and design team who have the skills to execute on their defined roles.

Experience Needed:

I. DESIGN + TECHNICAL STRATEGY  AREAS OF EXPERTISE:

  • Strategy + research: Develop and drive the core strategy and positioning for projects. Direct and conduct the appropriate level of research and analysis as it relates to the conceptual development and documentation of the project. 
  • Team management: Communicate clear deliverables and schedules to creative project team and supervise to ensure deadlines and expectations are met. Co-leading, managing and guiding resources, with project management and senior design team to achieve specific goals; ensure team communication is delivered in a consistent and timely fashion. 
  • Presentation strategy: Supervise the creative presentation strategy with Creative Director and/or Design Director for client meetings; co-lead client presentations. Lead and give successful presentations; express creative thoughts articulately in internal brainstorms and client presentations. 
  • Budget management: Effective management of changes to budget and/or commitments to ensure projects are completed under budget, and timely and accurate budget reporting to the client. 
  • Quality control: Accountable for the quality and accuracy of all deliverables. 
  • Project reporting: Supervise the project management team in providing timely and accurate project documentation and reporting including but not limited to: Project meetings, using meeting minutes to document project activity, project directories and project status updates to keep clients and team members updated. 
  • Resource planning: Review of weekly analysis and reporting of labor hours and expenses spent versus budgeted from project management team. Plan and review project resource requirements on a weekly basis to ensure appropriate staff is planned to deliver on project requirements. 

II. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AREAS OF EXPERTISE

  • Business development: Work with Partners/Principals to estimate and secure work. Supporting business development activities by maintaining long lasting relationships with Clients, the design community, architects and other organizations which enhance future business development opportunities. 
  • Client service: Cultivate and maintain a positive working relationship with all client representatives, Creative Council ™ members and vendor working on the project; understand client’s goals and objectives; proactively anticipate and respond to the clients requests/needs; ensure client is satisfied with design quality and service. 
  • Proposals: Creation of proposals for new business and/or additional services including: resource planning, budgeting hours, scope of work, scope of services, project development schedule and timelines. Identify additional services Infinite Scale provides that could further the client’s goals and objectives. Proposals created in Adobe InDesign. 
  • Contract administration: Accountable for professional service contracts and change orders, and verify appropriate vendor insurance certificates; ensure any overruns are covered via change orders. Supervise proper open and close process is set and maintained. Accountable to ensure project management team is coordinating with finance department in invoicing client based on agreed payment schedule; accountable to ensure project expense budgets are maintained and managed within project management team.

Responsibilities include leading a team of designers in all phases of project from schematic design to implementation, for brand activation, signage systems, environmental graphics, and partner integration sport-related projects.

The position requires the ability to think in three dimensions and an expertise with substrates, production methods and costs for products/processes utilized in environmental graphic design. The right candidate will have experience with strategic project planning, strong conceptual design skills and budget management.

We seek well-rounded design professionals and expect excellent client and presentation skills. Our studio’s process is collaborative and requires strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in graphic design, environmental graphic design or related field
  • 6+ years experience in EGD/signage/wayfinding design and production
  • Thorough experience with site analysis and programming for complex wayfinding, interpretive and sport-related environments
  • Ability to develop and implement interior and exterior signage packages (sign drawings, location plans, and schedules)
  • Possess a strong in-depth understanding of production methods, materials and fabrication techniques, ability to turn design concepts into detailed development and construction intent drawings
  • Experience leading and managing architectural and EGD projects from conceptual development through implementation/installation
  • Comprehension of architectural scales, sections, plans and elevations. Must be able to read and interpret architectural documents and shop drawings
  • Collaborative process with good communication skills that works well in an interdisciplinary, fast-paced environment
